Though once the fictitious back story dissolves into reality, there are still plenty of reasons to seek out “The Black Mill Tapes Volumes 1 & 2.” Many styles inherent in deep electronic zones are on display here: from eerie ‘70s soundtrack vibes and disintegrating organ melodies to beat-propelled murk and approximations of early krautrock. A few moments even recall a monochromatic version of Broadcast’s collaboration with the Focus Group.
