PYE Corner Audio
Sleep Games

Ghost Box

Pye Corner Audio’s most visible release to date, the Type Records-issued “The Black Mill Tapes Volumes 1 & 2” from earlier this year, was a logical starting point for the “Head Technician“‘s project, but it was highly referential and dependent on past works. “Sleep Games,” his first LP for Ghost Box, feels like a notable departure as it takes Pye Corner Audio’s familiar sound sources and crafts them into a much more confident and assured statement. “Sleep Games” is noticeably more musical and structured, with fluid melodies and rich harmonies floating atop the fuzzy and weathered beats. Of course, the album still features Pye Corner Audio’s dark atmospheres, swirling synths, and degraded textures, but the tracks themselves go past existing as soundscape studies to being full-bodied songs that almost fall into the realm of pop. A positive direction indeed. – Ryan Potts, Experimedia
